New Law In China Requires Children to Support Parents

A new family law in China effective July 1st requires children to emotionally and financially support their aging parents or face fines and even jail time!  Parents who feel neglected can now sue their children in China.  A recent ruling ordered a woman and her husband to visit her parents at least every two months and provide financial support or face jail.  The law offers a lot of discretion to the court to determine what the appropriate amount of support and potential penalties should be.

While Florida requires parents to financially support children, there has never been a proposal to make children responsible for their parents that I am aware of.  However, family law is rapidly transforming all across the United States as our culture changes.  I have to wonder if this is a concept that would ever be applied in the United States.
